Staff Positions:

  • Bainum Foundation Farm Manager: Join the Arcadia team and help us to establish a new agricultural operation on Bainum Foundation Farm in Middleburg, VA. Bainum Foundation Farm is a 263 acre farm enterprise managed by Arcadia in partnership with the Bainum Family Foundation. The Farm Manager will be an employee of Arcadia with the responsibility for operating and managing the farm in a manner that builds and enhances the reputation of both organizations.

Current plans for the Farm include 7 new acres in annual fruit and vegetable production in 2017, with plans to expand up to 15 acres in the following years. Additional use of the 263 acres will be determined via a long-term planning effort in which the Farm Manager will participate. Applications will be reviewed on rolling basis until position is filled. Desired start date is prior to November 2015. Application deadline is September 1. Download the full Job Description HERE.

Volunteer, Intern, and Training Positions:

  • Arcadia Farm Internship: Come learn about our farming methods and help us create a more sustainable and equitable food system in the DC area. This is an unpaid internship with no previous farming experience required, however, experience doing physical labor is helpful. We ask that you commit to a minimum of 1 day of work per week so that you can get the most out of your experience on the farm. Above all, a good attitude, drive, people skills and a commitment to doing good work is most important in enjoying your time as a farm intern at Arcadia. We will do a range of activities on any given day including soil preparation, planting, weeding and harvesting. Once the season really ramps up, a typical day might look like: harvesting for most of the morning, lunch, weeding for 2-3 hours and 2-3 hours of other farm activities (laying out drip irrigation, seeding in the greenhouse, staking tomato plants, etc.) The staff at Arcadia will set aside time to discuss some of your personal goals for your internship. If there is a specific focus you might like to devote more time to (beekeeping, greenhouse management, irrigation systems, etc), we will happily provide you with educational resources and hands-on experience. Additionally, as an intern at Arcadia, you will be able to participate in the monthly farm tours that are held by the Collaborative Regional Alliance for Farmer Training.
